MLB and Instagram

Photo taken with Instagram during the Orioles vs. Mets game at Citifield on June 20, 2012.

My favorite season is baseball season (though hockey is a very close second). I was raised on baseball. My sports-loving father got two daughters, and I’m pretty sure he is happy he was able to turn us both into pretty big sports fans, and of course for baseball Met fans. Earlier this week Instagram announced that in the next few weeks all thirty MLB teams will have official accounts on Instagram. Eight teams officially have accounts as of now, and of course there is MLB’s own account which is quite active. If you are a baseball fan, this is good news because these photos give you more insight into your favorite team. My favorite hockey team, the New York Islanders has a very active Instagram account and its nice to see some behind the shots of players and different angles of plays on the ice. Now I’m just waiting for the New York Mets to launch their official account.

This week’s issue of Sports Illustrated features a six-page spread of MLB photos taken by sports photographer Brad Mangin with Instagram. On his blog Brad details all of the apps he used in this project that he started in February at spring training. The eighteen photos that were published in Sports Illustrated all also appear on Brad’s Instagram feed (@bmangin). It’s a really good spread to thumb through and I highly recommend following Brad on Instagram because he is an amazing photographer.
