And the Oscar goes to…

The 85th annual Academy Awards air tomorrow. Every year I either see none or at the most one movie that is nominated before the award show airs. This year was no different, I have only seen Les Misérables which is nominated in a few categories and I thought was a great adaption of one of my all-time favorite Broadway shows. Though I will argue that I think Eddie Redmayne who plays Marius in the film was overlooked for Best Supporting Actor. His performance in my opinion was one of the best and his rendition of Empty Chairs at Empty Tables was heartbreaking. I watch the Oscars and other award shows mainly for the fashion. I love to see what dresses are being worn and pick my favorite and least favorite dressed for the night.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences teamed up with Gallery1988 in Los Angeles for original posters inspired by the nine films nominated in the Best Picture category in an exhibition called For Your Consideration. This collaboration is the first time the Academy has teamed up with a gallery for art work for the nominated films. All of the posters can be seen here on the Oscar website. The artistic posters give you a little more insight into the films than the ordinary movie posters do, like the eagle wings in the Silver Linings Playbook poster since the Philadelphia Eagles play a part in the film. Plus the colors used in the poster are the colors for the team. It’d be great to see the Academy make artistic poster for the Best Picture nominees a new tradition.
