Spring fever

After months of freezing cold weather and snow having a few days of relief with warmer temperatures in New York is giving me spring fever. It might be raining out right now but when the temperature hits above 40˙ for a few days it is almost cause for celebration. One place where it feels like spring and summer year-round on Long Island is the Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay. What was once a mansion the 409 acres is now a historic state park and features many gardens, trails and two greenhouses.

Of the two greenhouses on the property one is dedicated solely to camellias. Camellias blossom in the greenhouse from December to March so it is the perfect place to visit in the winter for a little spring pick-me-up.
