Orchids, orchids everywhere

In what seems like a never ending winter, a great place to visit on Long Island to be reminded of spring is the Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay. The historic state park is home to two greenhouses, one for camellias which I took you on a tour of here and the other the main greenhouse has begonias, cacti, ferns, palms and seasonal plants and flowers exhibits as well. Throughout the main greenhouse you will also find orchids blooming, but there is also a separate wing of the greenhouse solely dedicated to them. Walking around the greenhouse and the orchid wing which are climate controlled when it is cold and snowy out gives you hope that maybe spring is really right around the corner.

Orchids. My mother in law always gets them for me so at one point I had three of them in our house. One didn’t survive, but the one that I groomed at work managed to blossom again. Now, I’m trying to do the same thing with the one left at home, but it does take a huge amount of patience.
