When Hurricane Irene hit in 2011, everyone thought it was going to be the big one to damage Long Island. She did leave destruction and damaged houses in her path, but compared to Hurricane Sandy that hit a year later she was tame. In the time though, we didn’t know what the future held and when the ocean breached through the boardwalks and onto the streets in my hometown of Long Beach, NY, we thought it was really bad. After the storm passed, I made my way onto the beach to see the damage and the force of the ocean waves had turned the sand into what looked like foam. Between Irene and Sandy, we really learned what a force of nature the ocean can be and that is the theme of this week’s photo challenge.
