With 2018 coming to an end in a few days, I wanted to share some of my favorite photos of the year. I also felt it was time to end the unexpected hiatus of not posting here in almost two months. Life gets in the way sometimes and with it I hit an incredible amount of creative and writer’s block. I’m hoping to break through it as we head into the new year.
There is something about a pink flower against a blue sky that I love. A few years ago when I photographed my first Saucer Magnolia tree, I loved the way the flowers bloom and I’m always on the lookout for these trees to photograph in early spring. I love trying out different angles out under the tree and as soon as I lined this shot up, I knew it was going to be one of my favorites!
The North Fork of Long Island is one of my favorite places any time of the year, but in August, I love it even more because of the sunflowers. This summer, I was finally set to visit the secret sunflower field I kept seeing on Instagram when North Fork Potato Chips opened it to the public, but a few days before my visit, the field was shut down for the season due to weather. Luckily, I still knew of a few farms to visit that may have still had open fields, so I spent two days driving all around the North Fork chasing sunflowers. The top photo is from Patty’s Berries & Bunches in Mattituck, which had rows after rows of sunflowers and other flowers to view. The bottom photo is from Bayview Farms & Market in Aquebogue which had a smaller field than Patty’s, but still had an abundance of flowers to see. And side note, they have some of the best fruits and vegetables at unbeatable prices.
Wishing you a happy holiday season!
